Following graduation from Radford I entered the USAF Academy, graduating in
June of 1966 as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. I then entered
pilot training at Laredo AFB, Texas. While at Laredo I met and later married
an Air Force nurse (the former Carol Ann Giffen from Pleasant Grove, Iowa.
We have been married for 34 years, have two grown daughters, one
granddaughter and two grandsons.
Following graduation from pilot training I entered and completed F-4 fighter
training then was sent to Thailand for the first of two combat tours (at
Ubon then Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Bases) in the F-4. During the two tours
I accumulated 399 combat missions in the F-4, primarily over North Vietnam
and Laos. Following completion of my second combat tour I was assigned to
Luke AFB, in Arizona as an F-4 instructor pilot. I continued flying fighters
(F-4s then F-15s) for the remainder of my Air Force career with assignments
at Davis-Monthan, Luke, Nellis, Kadena, Eglin and Langley. Between flying
assignments I received student assignments to the University of Southern
California, where I received an MBA, and to the Air Command and Staff
College.
I retired from the U.S. Air Force in June of 1986 and accepted a job with
Raytheon Company where I have worked for the past 16 years, first as an
international marketing manager then as a program manager. I am currently
working within Raytheons Air and Missile Defense Systems business area,
headquartered in Bedford, Massachusetts with a focus on air and missile
defense related business for the Republic of China on Taiwan. Carol is the
owner and manager of a full service beauty salon and day spa in Hudson, New
Hampshire, with specialized wig fitting and prosthetic services for
chemotherapy, disfigured and handicapped clients.
We have lived in Nashua, New Hampshire for the past 16 years and plan to
remain here near our daughters and grandchildren, with winter escapes to our
condo in Key West, Florida.
